Rice, Meet Coconut

Some things were just meant to be together, kind of like the way you felt when you first arrived to the North Shore. As you drive through the Rainbow Bridge into the town of Haleiwa, you feel like you’ve gone back in time and you instantly slow down to take it all in. About two blocks into town is a Thai restaurant, Haleiwa Eats. You will want to order everything on the menu, but a must is their coconut rice--quite possibly the most amazing combination ever. The rice is topped off with fried onions, and it is, in a word, amazing. Welcome to the North Shore. Say hello to yumminess…and a full belly.

Tough Shell. Soft Heart.

Coconut tea, beach wraps, and a great tan may be the only things you plan to bring back home from Bora Bora… However, don’t be shocked if adoption papers find their way back with you too – a hawksbill turtle may just steal your heart. Every morning at the Turtle Sanctuary at Le Meridien Bora Bora, the dedicated staff invites hotel guests from all over the island for the turtles daily 10 a.m. feeding time. You get to learn all about the Turtle Sanctuary’s efforts to protect the turtles of Tahiti, as well as their plans to release healthy, adult turtles into the wild. After the turtles are full of tuna, you can snorkel with them in the hotel’s lagoon, and get great pictures of your newly adopted family member to post proudly on the fridge when you get home. Your tan may fade when you get back from Bora Bora, but your pictures and memories will last a lifetime…

Drool. Point. And Savor…

You might feel like you’re at a Chinese restaurant, where you order by pointing at a picture of the food you would like for dinner. At Bloody Mary’s in Bora Bora (which does not serve Chinese food, only the freshest catches of the day), they preview their nightly selections on a giant slab of ice, or as they call it there: the menu. There is a host waiting behind the mounds of seafood and meat that leave you salivating and bright-eyed at all of your options, to explain all of your choices for dinner that evening. Good luck choosing between a thick Ahi Tuna Steak, rich and flaky Moonfish, or Salmon marinated in Bloody Mary’s signature BBQ sauce. And definitely make sure to order at least one shrimp skewer on the side. Oh, and of course, start off dinner with their namesake - a Bloody Mary.
